Memorial Page for Scot Dilbeck

Honoring the memory of Scot and calling attention to the devastating impact that distracted and influenced driving can have on victims and their families.

OSCN Case # CF-2019-402 STATE OF OKLAHOMA VS BRADLEY WADE WOFFORD

A Tragic Loss

Scot was an amazing, yet ordinary, man, whose life touched many.

Scot served you and I in the Navy. He became a Dad by choice (his and his daughter’s) and was a proud grandfather to their children. He served as protector and provider for his family and friend and entertainer for everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Together, Rose and Scot  supported each other, eventually completing college. Scot loved working and volunteering at Google, while Rose embarked on an accounting career. They were looking forward the many years ahead and the plans they had worked hard for their entire lives.

On his way home from work on June 10, 2019, Scot’s life was taken by a DUI driver in a fatal car accident, ending his life and changing Rose’s forever.

He had plans for travel, for retirement, for his family…

He had a beautiful life…

He had a wonderful career…

He was beloved by his family and respected by friends and coworkers…

He was taken without being asked if he wanted to go…

He never knew what hit him…

I was lucky to have Scot as my... husband dad friend coworker brother son uncle grandpa .

Welcome to my Therapy

Hello, I'm Rose.

I had the honor of being married to Scot Dilbeck. I’m struggling with unexpectedly making a new path for my life.

Please feel free to join our discussions about Scot, DUI solutions, or sharing your experience with loss due to someone driving while influenced.

I want to make my tragedy and Scot’s sudden ending mean something. Whether it be by providing an avenue for a local community of survivors, educating the public about the dark side of DUI driving, or giving people who were fortunate enough to know Scot a way to express their feelings about how his loss impacted their lives.

I want to volunteer my story and will be happy to join any initiative that will help bring the severe consequences paid by the victims and their families to the forefront of everyone’s mind.

If, by this action, I help just 1 person to keep the people that are precious to them here, I will succeed in bringing a positive light to my husbands tragic ending and gain some control back from a situation neither of us had any control over.

Take The Oath

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous. However, anytime you are in command of a car, things can happen. We encourage you to take the same personal oath that we have, to make every effort to be vigilant and safe on the road. Be constantly aware of your surroundings. Have a mental plan in the case of surprises.

Make a pledge to make the roads safer on a personal level.

Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in drunkdriving crashes—that’s one person every 48 minutes in 2017. These deaths have fallen by a third in the last three decades; however, drunkdriving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year.

Drug-Impaired Driving:
You can’t drive safely if you’re impaired. That’s why it’s illegal everywhere in America to drive under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, opioids, methamphetamines, or any potentially impairing drug–prescribed or over the counter. Driving while impaired by any substance—legal or illegal—puts you and others in harm’s way. Learn the latest research on drug-impaired driving, misconceptions about marijuana use, and what you can do to make smarter choices to drive safely.

Distracted Driving - we are all guilty at some level and consequences are accidental.

Impaired driving - is an intentional decision to illegally put ourselves and others in danger and consequences are not accidental.

While there is a current focus on the dangers of texting while driving, driving under any influence of anything that takes your attention from the road puts others, as well as yourself, at risk. For example if your ability to concentrate is impaired by alcohol, legal or illegal drugs, sleep deprivation, automatic driving, avoiding radio commercials, passengers, or yes, even your phone, you become a risk on the road.

Driving can be a dangerous experience, even when you are clear and concentrated on the road. Potholes, other drivers, traffic, random animals, weather, emergency vehicles and an unimaginable number of unpredictable experiences can require an instant response.

Driving under the influence can impair the ability to make the decisions required to avoid these dangers and therefore putting yourself and everyone around you at risk.

There are enough risks on the road. As drivers, everyone should take an oath that they have accountability to reduce as much risk as possible to everyone, including ourselves. Take the oath today!!

In addition to the cost of the DUI victims and their families, there is a cost to the offenders families as well…monetary and emotional costs for dealing with family members that are sentenced to prison.
